Salvaging is the practice of taking any available resource or spoils during the ongoing games.

Many tributes often take the possessions of the other participants they defeat in the arena as spoils of war.

Advantages and Disadvantages

Salvaging can prove useful for tributes who are running out of resources in that they can simply take and use those that belonged to the tributes they kill. However, they are susceptible to decoy tactics where the items they salvage may actually be detrimental by nature.

Known users

  • Foxface - In her games, she was known for salvaging as she figured out a path to avoid the mines around the Careers' pyramid of supplies and then took a small, unnoticeable amount.
  • Katniss Everdeen - In both her games and life before the games, Katniss was known for salvaging. She and Gale Hawthorne (another person who uses this tactic) hunted together in the woods of District 12.
  • Peeta Mellark - In his games, he salvaged for food when he and Katniss split up, and he collected a supply of food which contained deadly nightlock berries.
